How To Polish Aluminum - Using Cream Of Tartar & Using Aluminum Polish

Method 1: Utilising Cream of Tartar

 

1. A solution of cream of tartar in water should be prepared. Cream of tartar, also known as potassium bitartrate, is a byproduct of wine-making and has a variety of applications in the home as a cleaning agent. To create a paste, mix together equal parts cream of tartar and warm water.

 

2. The product should then be applied to the aluminium. The cream of tartar should then be worked into the aluminium surface using a soft cloth. The product should be applied using small circular motions.
In the case of cleaning an aluminium pot or pan, the recommended procedure is to boil water and add one tablespoon of cream of tartar to the pot or pan. The mixture should be boiled for a period of ten minutes, after which the cream of tartar should be removed and the item allowed to cool and rinsed thoroughly.

 

3. Subsequent to the application of the aforementioned substance, the aluminium should be rinsed with water. Following the application of the cream of tartar to the aluminium, it is essential to perform a thorough rinsing of the item in question. It is imperative to ensure the complete removal of the cream of tartar; therefore, particular attention should be paid to crevices, handles, edges, and other similar areas.

 

4. Once the item has been rinsed, it should be allowed to dry naturally. If necessary, a clean, soft cloth, such as a microfibre towel, can be used to absorb any remaining moisture. It is important to ensure that all traces of water are removed, as they may leave unsightly watermarks if not completely dried.

 

Method 2: Using aluminium polish

 

1. Apply aluminium polish. The aluminium polish should be applied to the piece using a soft cloth. The product should be wiped on using small, circular motions. Please note that aluminium polish should not be used on pots, pans or cookware, even if the item is to be washed afterwards. This is due to the fact that aluminium polish should never be ingested.

 

2. The polish should then be removed with a soft cloth. Once the aluminium polish has been applied to the item, the residue should be removed from the aluminium using a clean, soft cloth. It is important to pay particular attention to handles, crevices and etchings to ensure that all traces of the aluminium polish are removed.

 

3. Apply a buffing agent to the item. Once the polish has been removed, it is advisable to buff the item in order to restore the shine. Select a new, clean, soft cloth for the buffing process. The item should then be buffed using small, circular motions in the same way as the aluminium polish was applied and removed.
