Hanging a Ladder for Decorative Purpose
1. It is recommended that you purchase a 4–6 ft (1.2–1.8 m) hanging, shelf, or blanket ladder. It is recommended that you purchase a wooden ladder with two rails that is designed for accessing tall bookshelves, hanging off the side of a wall, or shelving blankets. A standard A-frame ladder is not suitable for use as a decorative item as it has four side rails instead of two. Furthermore, it would need to be disassembled in order to be mounted as a shelf or storage unit. Even if an A-frame ladder is disassembled, the seat will extend past the rails, resulting in an uneven fit on the wall.
It is preferable to use a ladder with flat rails rather than one with round rails. The round rails present a greater challenge when drilling.
Select a ladder with a wood grain that enhances the interior design of your home.
The side rails are the long lengths of wood that provide stability for the ladder.
2. It is important to ensure that the ladder will fit in the intended space before proceeding. Place the ladder horizontally along the wall where it is to be installed. If the fit appears to be too snug, please use a measuring tape to ascertain the length of your ladder. It is then necessary to ascertain whether there is sufficient wall space to accommodate the ladder.
3. It is recommended that you use a stud finder to identify the location of your joists. It is important to note that ladders are heavy and therefore must be mounted on studs. To identify the location of studs in your wall, we recommend purchasing a stud finder. To locate the supporting joists behind the drywall, move the stud finder across the wall. The device will emit an audible signal or illuminate when it has identified a stud within the wall.
The typical spacing for studs is either 16 inches (41 cm) or 24 inches (61 cm) apart. If the stud finder is unable to locate any studs, please replace the batteries.
If you do not intend to place any items on the ladder and the weight is less than 20 pounds (9.1 kg), it is not necessary to secure the ladder to studs.
4. Please use a level and pencil to mark the locations for the bracket on the bottom rail. Please hold the level against the wall until the central bubble is centred. Subsequently, utilise the stud finder to mark a minimum of three studs. It is recommended that one mark be placed at intervals of between one and two feet (30 and 61 cm) to ensure that the ladder will be evenly supported. This task is made easier with the assistance of another person. It may be beneficial to enlist the assistance of a colleague or family member to hold the level while you mark the wall.
It is advisable to hold the ladder in position before drilling any holes in the wall, in order to avoid any potential overlap with the ladder rungs.
5. Please secure the L-brackets to the wall with the brackets facing upwards. L-brackets are L-shaped pieces of reinforced metal used to hang heavy items on a flat surface. When purchasing L-shaped brackets, select a size slightly smaller than the width of your ladder's rails and drill them into the wall at the locations previously marked. Please use 3 in (7.6 cm) screws to install the brackets.
Please ensure that the part of the bracket that sticks out is on the bottom.
If you are hanging a small ladder with rails that are thinner than 3 inches (7.6 cm) in width, 1 1/8 in (2.9 cm) brackets will be suitable.
